New England Patriots drop 59 points on Colts in win

19. listopadu 2012 v 2:16 | news articles
Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts are writing a nice story this NFL season as a potential playoff upstart. Just don't call them real contenders yet.
The Colts saw what a title contender looked like in Foxborough on Sunday evening in a 59-24 loss to the Patriots. New England scored twice on interception returns and another time on a punt return touchdown. When you start spotting the Patriots points when Tom Brady is on the sideline, things are bound to get ugly.
Brady was extremely sharp, throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns on only 35 attempts.Andrew Luck turned the ball over four times and will probably get blamed for the loss, but this was a total team meltdown. The Colts secondary has quietly been among the worst in the league all year. The Patriots converted eight third downs in 12 tries. Indy's special teams was awful; Julian Edelmanhad 117 yards in two attempts.
This game doesn't really tell us that much about the 6-4 Colts. We never thought they could compete with the elite in the AFC. Next week against Buffalo will tell us a lot more. That's a game that a playoff-bound team needs to win. Lose to Buffalo, and that last Wild Card spot in the AFC will be wide open.
The Patriots, meanwhile, are on to bigger matters. Up three games in the AFC East, New England isn't thinking about whether they will make the playoffs or not. They are angling for a first round bye.
