The Dallas Cowboys fear standout linebacker Sean Lee is facing surgery on his right big toe that will end his 2012 season, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Albert Breer reported Tuesday night.
Nothing is official, though the Cowboys could have a clear answer by Wednesday.
Lee injured his toe in the third quarter of Dallas' 19-14 winover the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. He was seen on crutches the next day, though he told the The Dallas Morning News he thought he'd "be ready to roll" against theNew York Giants in Week 8.
If Lee is done for the year, this is shocking news that could be a devastating blow to the Cowboys' defense. Lee is an impact player with a nose for the football. He was a dominating presence against the Panthers on Sunday before being forced out of the game with the injury.
Dan Connor is in line to start on Sunday if Lee can't go.
